Beholding Your Beauty

by Dan Vera

In my eyes
I will always be holding your beauty for you.

Your breath in cadence while sleeping
I hold to memory.

It becomes my breath,
It becomes the beat I
long to follow.
I fall into loving you.

Which is not the same as
falling in love.

And once fallen
I arise with your laughter
with the sound of your voice.

The earth holds me
by some queer gravity.
You hold me
by the warm physics of kindness,
with a tenderness
which is gentle and at the same time strong.
